Using Flipcharts

Flipcharts are the lessons that are used on the Promethean board. You can download flipcharts from Promethean Planet. Register at this site if you have not done so already. You will be using it a lot! Hint: Promethean Planet is a VERY busy site. I found that downloading flipcharts on the weekends and in the evenings is MUCH faster than downloading flipcharts during school hours.

  • Choose the appropriate Category. You're going to want to look at 'Search by State Standard.' This gives you all the flipcharts that match the standards! Pretty awesome!
  • Under Resource Type choose Lesson. I really wish they'd just name this Flipchart since that's what lessons are!

  • You can choose age, subject areas, and media. Or you can skip any one of these
  • Look through the thumbnails of the flipcharts and read the descriptions.
  • When you find a flipchart that seems right for you, double click on it. You'll be able to see a slide show of that flipchart. If that's the one you want, click on 'download flipchart'.
  • You'll have the chance to rename your flipchart. You want to call it just what it is so you'll recognize it by the title.
  • Choose where you want to save it.

Weblinks
Did you notice when you were searching that you can also search for weblinks. Searching for weblinks on a given topic will provide you with a list of interactive sites that will work great on your board.

Resource Packs
A resource pack is a kit of images around a given topic. You might search for a money resource pack or a resource pack on time or a particular theme . You'll find several different resource packs to use in making flipcharts.
  • Search for a resource pack on a current topic. I just searched for winter and found several resource packs.
  • Download a resource pack and save it to your desktop (it won't stay there!).
  • Double click on the resource pack.
  • It will ask you if you want to import it to your resources or Shared Resources. I usually choose Shared Resources.
  • That's it - now delete the resource pack from the desktop.
  • Look in your shared resources in ActivInspire and you will see your new resource pack!

Where to save your flipcharts:
Here's where I prefer to save flipcharts. This seems a little tedious but by saving them as described here, they'll show up in your Resource Library under My FlipCharts. I like that! :)
You can actually save them anywhere you want to, as long as you can find them!
  • Download flipchart.
  • Rename it if necessary.
  • Save it to your documents/Promethean folder/ActivStudio3/Myflipcharts.
  • That's all! :)

Another Place to Save Flipcharts (this might just be YOUR preference!)

  • Download flipchart.
  • Rename it if necessary.
  • Save it to your Documents.
  • You may choose to have a Flipcharts Folder where you store ALL of your flipcharts. Within the folder you might create folders to organize your flipcharts. Here are a couple of examples of the way you might want to organize.
